07 Aug 2018-2019 President, Stephanie Merriott
Meet our new President, Stephanie Merriott!
Stephanie is a proud Independence resident who has lived here since the early 90s when her family moved from southern California. She attended John W. Luff Elementary, Palmer Jr. High School, and graduated from Truman High School. Stephanie received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Graceland University, her Masters from Webster University, and her Doctorate from Baker University. She is currently the Assistant Principal at Korte Elementary School in the Independence School District. Stephanie has been married to her husband, Zach, since 2005. They are parents to an adorable Shih-Tzu, Independence Elizabeth. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys reading, writing, walking the dog, game nights, traveling, browsing in the West Bottoms, hanging out on the Independence Square, volunteering in the community, live theater, and attempting Pinterest DIY projects.
Stephanie is honored and excited to serve as JSL President this year. As President, she has shared her commitment to focus on the attributes of leadership, service, and relationships as interwoven threads which create a strong rope that connects us to one another and the community. When we embody these traits, we are more easily able to work together to make our corner of the world a better place. Stephanie will focus on our “North Star” of service in our community, continuously reflecting on how our work in the community demonstrates our care for one another. She is motivated by the Winston Churchill quote, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”
